I touched a Totoro Metal Ninja Man.

For the first time in a long time, after being away for a while, I have never been this excited to go back to the sandpit. And here are few good reasons to rejoice:

Primo. David Lynch collaborates with Interpol. Lynch's animated short film titled I Touch a Red Button Man premiered as a visual presentation in the set of Interpol's Lights during their Coachella Music Festival performance. It has been described as (according to the official website Matador Records) a juxtaposition of the seen and the unseen, as the observer becomes the observed...exploring the deepening layers of covert surveillance, morphing data acquisition into visual beauty and questioning the fine line between the viewer and the voyeur.

I admire Lynch as an artist in his own right. He has done his own music for some of his films and others and one of my favorites is the collaboration with Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse from the album Dark Night of the Soul, which then featured his artworks on the album insert. I am not so keen about this Interpol Under Surveillance project, although it's nice to see him explore other forms of media aside from filmmaking. And being unconventional is what Lynch is best known and most notorious for.

Segundo. I just downloaded the album, Princess Ghibli, a much-awaited project called Imaginary Flying Machine which features Studio Ghibli songs played by metal bands from different parts of Europe and Japan. And my oh my, what a delightful, little, evil concoction indeed. Here's the trailer:

Personal picks: Sanpo (My Neighbor Totoro) by Living Corpse and Nausicaa Requiem (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind) by Neroargento both featuring Yoko Hallelujah. Other bands included in the project are Disarmonia Mundi, Blood Stain Child and Destrange. All I can say is, "It's about time, Mr. Miyazaki."

Tertio. Another schlock body-breakin' electronica remix video? Why not. Here's the clip for this film's electrofunk music video Dance Norweigan Ninja Dance.

I wish someone would also do an electronica dance remix for the Turkish Star Wars training montage.

Now, I can finally have some coffee.

Life in black and white is not so boring

Nothing cheers me up more in a gloomy weather than a delightfully dark, obscure teaser that is somewhat reminiscent of David Lynch and Guy Maddin.

Life in black and white is not so boring if you'd come to think of it.

I've been re-compiling my Sonic Youth playlist on iTunes only to realise that The XX is a more upbeat and lo-fi version of them. It made me chuckle upon the sudden discovery.

Just for fun, here are my 7 quintessential Sonic Youth songs. I picked 7 because it's a magical number.

01. Hoarfrost - A Thousand Leaves
02. Safe in Hell - Demonlover OST
03. Winner's Blues - Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star
04. Disconnection Notice - Murray Street
05. Turquoise Boy - Rather Ripped
06. Unmade Bed - Sonic Nurse
07. Little Troubled Girl - Washing Machine

And with that, I shall now leave you in peace.

Thus, the sound of the waves collide.

In accordance to the yesterday's 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Japan YET AGAIN, here is Lars von Trier's take on our impeding doom.
